Delphi Ruins

10/7/11

Let me start off by saying you guys should feel very privileged that I am even writing you I had to pay for this internet but I figured I couldn't not update on Athens so I caved to the hotel scam and paid for my minutes for the rest of the week.

Today we started off the morning going to the ancient ruins of Delphi and the archeological museum there. We headed straight to the museum and walked through that in what seemed like hours.  Instead of highlighting all the interesting points in the museum our guide walks through each and every artifact there.  It gets rather annoying after about 5 minutes.  The group has decided she likes to hear herself talk.  Her being Yolanda.  Anyways...Parts of the museum were pretty interesting and they did have a few neat things along with stories about the artifacts.

Yolanda!

After the museum we headed up the the ruins of Delphi.  There we were able to see the agora (marketplace) the temple dedicated to Apollo and the ancient stadium along with other city walls and such.  Again Yolanda felt the need to explain every last detail about all the unimportant things she knows which then makes us tune her out while she talks about the interesting facts.  In the end we were able to see the the beauty this city used to be.  The location was incredible on the side of a hill.  As we stood over looking the current city you could imagine how beautiful it would have been.  Marble temples and roads.  I wish i could see it in its hay-day.

As we finished up in Delphi we headed down to the tourist area to grab some lunch.  A few of us wandered to the end of town and stopped at a small cafe with a terrace over looking the city.  Truly breathtaking.

Then we headed to ATHENS!!  about a 3 hour drive from Delphi.  The drive went fairly quickly and we arrived in the big city.  We were able to see the acropolis and eat dinner on the town...unfortunately for you your just going to have to see athens till Sunday!  Stay Tuned!
