Rock Monasteries

10/6/11

We started off the morning going up into the rock mountains near Meteora.  Within these 3000ft high rock formations hold many holy nunneries and monasteries, which are high up in the rocks.  Our first monastery was the Monastery of St. Nicholas Anapafsas.  While there we were able to see a Greek Orthodox church and a museum of the typical clothing of a bishop.

Following that stop we had a photo stop by the Holy Monastery of St. Barbara.

Then we headed to the Holy Monastery of St. Stephen which was a nunnery and very beautiful.  There, also, we were able to see a greek church.  The grounds were full of gardens!  There were also very beautiful views of the city all around.

Afterwards we headed down to Itera which is the port city right next to Delphi.  Tomorrow is Delphi and Athens!
