More Paul!

10/5/11

Our first stop is the church of St. Demetrius which is a Greek Orthodox church which is very beautiful. They use mosaics and other pictures to depict lessons they wish their patrons to learn from the bible. One unique feature they have is a wall with three doors. One for the men, one for the females and then a center door. These doors are said to lead to the heavens and an opening to God. The rest of the church is said to be the earth. This reminded me of the temple from the old testament how they had three parts; the courtyard, the holy place, and then the holy of holies. The holy of holies was their method to speak and be closest to God. After we toured the church we walked down to the crypt of the church where St. Demetrius' body was hidden. We then got kicked out of the church because of a strike going on against the government.

Our next stop was in Veria at a small monument of 3 steps where it's said Paul preached to the peope. Then off to lunch! Today we had "Roma Pizza" which was so delicious.

As we were walking back to the bus we grabbed some gelato! Carmel, Vanilla with chocolate chips for me Yum! Then off to Meteora.
